Water is one of the most important themes in Leonardo works, both artistic and scientific. All his paintings with landscapes contain water inside. He wants to control water and to use it in different ways, making several plans to build canals and to drain swamps. The drawings related to these projects were done during the first milanese and the French period. Leonardo is also amazed of destroying power of water: he often saw devastating overflowing of Arno river.
