Didascalia: Codex
Arundel, folio 54 r.
The folio contains the drawing of five ogival
projectiles and, in the lower part, the features of a terrain inspection.
Under the ogival projectiles there are two inscriptions: above,
"mezo cioé a metà" (that is, placed in the
middle); below, "boca aunglata" (elongated nose). On the
left there is an annotation on the power of the projectiles: "La
superchia potenza sopra una medesima resistenzia niente giova al
mobile. Ma se la potenzia del motore si troverà in proporzione
col suo mobile, allora el moto fatto dal mobile fia in primo grado
di sua valitudine" (A moved part will draw no benefit from
having greater power than the force resisting it. However, if the
power of the moving agent is equal to the power of the part it moves,
the moved part will greatly benefit from its motion ...).
