Milan 4-6 June 2009:
Annual Conference of Ecsite, the European Network for Science Centres and Museums.
In those three days the Museum remained closed to the public in order to host a great event: the annual conference of Ecsite, the European Network for Science Centres and Museums, which is the most important network in the field at European level. Its members are 430 museums and science centres from 28 European countries and 22 countries outside Europe.
983 professionals from 49 countries were involved in 75 parallel sessions, workshops, meetings and activities which have been a fundamental moment for the debate on science communication in Italy, in Europe and internationally.
The museums and science centres which are members of Ecsite
attrach more than 30 million visitors per year and a lot more through their websites. More than 60%
of their public is less that 25 years old and almost 40% is students.
The conference was organised by Ecsite in cooperation with the National Museum of Science and Technology "Leonardo da Vinci" and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, University and Research - Primavera della Scienza Project, with the Region of Lombardy, the City of Milan, Assolombarda and Expo 2015.

The documentary "A Place for Citizenship" - conceived and produced by the Museum on occasion of the 20th anniversary of the ECSITE Annual Conference
- considers key issues such as “why do we need science centres and museums?” The documentary takes us around Europe, visiting some of the most
important science centres and museums to meet the main characters of the film: each with his or her own “museum story”.
