Channel paving

the museum model

This model represents a section of the paving of the S. Marco pound lock in Milan. Together with the Incoronata pound lock, it was meant to connect the Naviglio della Martesana with the inner basin of the city. The building system consists of rows of piles stuck in the ground and connected by crosspieces. Due to the disparity in the level of the two locks, the borders and the bottom of the channel were exposed to high water pressure. This structure would guarantee a good water hold.
