Continuous teaseling machine
Leonardo devised this interesting machine, in his endeavour to produce
teased lengths of wool. Soaked in an alkaline solution, wool fibres
emerge compact and stiff, with a tangle of filaments jutting out. Teaseling
consists in tidying and straightening this tangle, by raising and smoothing
the filaments in order to make that characteristic fibre which makes
wool capable of retaining heat.
