Directions for use of Virtual Leonardo

If you think that Virtual Leonardo is difficult to use, think again... Conceptually it may remind you of classic 3-D computer games like Doom or Quake. Only there is no gunplay here!!

Below is a specimen screen:
The virtual world features above
The middle of the screen displays the commands of the CosmoPlayer plug-in
Messages from/to other users, and the central system, Webtalk, feature below

As soon as you log in, you'll be asked to choose an animated character among those available. That will be the outward appearance under which you'll be seen by your fellow visitors.
Pick out one and click OK.
Now you are ready to get started.

The CosmoPlayer commands

CosmoPlayer è il plugin che vi permette di muovervi nel mondo VRML.

CosmoPlayer is a plug-in, which enables you to wander around the VRML world.

To move from one entry to the next, you can use either the mouse or the selection tools. (To fly, just keep pressing the right mouse button.) Whenever the cursor turns into a small sun, you can interact with an object (walk into a door, read a caption, animate a machine, etc.)
After trying your hand at CosmoPlayer for a while, you'll become familiar with its commands.
To find out more about how to use CosmoPlayer, go to help on line or to the manufacturer's site.

The Webtalk commands

To chat with other users, position the selection arrow on the text bar below, click the left mouse button, key in a sentence and click "return". After a short while, your message will appear on the screens of all users connected.

You can use the buttons to your right to see who's on line, join a group, etc.

Map of Virtual Leonardo

map of Virtual Leonardo

The VRML world of Virtual Leonardo is divided into two cloisters, Leonardo, the Scientist and Leonardo, the Technologist.
The visitor walks into the first cloister, Leonardo, the Scientist, and finds him/herself on the lawn, where, in the middle, a statue-like device for testing beating wings bears witness to Leonardo's keenness for flight.
From the lawn, you can fly to the first floor, where four rooms house as many animated machines: the glider, the pulleys, the aerial screw and the parachute.
The second cloister is identical to the first, except for the machines it houses - again on the first floor -, the lagoon dredge, the pile driver, the revolving bridge and the fast ramming boat (the latter is not animated.)

To move from one cloister to the other, you should exit the system and re-enter the other cloister.
