The ground plan of this temple shows a regular octagon at the centre, into which open eight identical chapels which are connected to the octagon through narrow corridors. Each chapel is capped above by a semi-circular apse. Here Leonardo studies a gemmated plan for a temple. It consists in an arrangement, whereby elements similar in shape yet of different dimensions from each other radiate from a central body.
