Angular tower with corbels

Torre angolare con beccatelli

In this tower we can see both typical elements from medieval military engineering and innovations from fortified Renaissance architecture. Traditional battlements are sustained by a series of corbels which hide the machicolations, that is, gratings through which boiling oil was poured on the enemies. An innovation is the massive tower escarpment, meant to resist the shocks caused by firearms. In the moat there is a wall with slits which hosted artillery posts.
