Bridge channel with clapping door sluices

Ponte canale con chiuse a porte battenti

"leading water from one place to another"

This channel bridge, designed for Florence, allows to cross a water course thanks to a large lock. The lock consists of a system of sluices positioned at a certain distance one from the other. These sluices allow boats to pass over water drops. In the notes next to the drawing, Leonardo describes how to build the sides of a channel so as to avoid the water washing away the bank gravel. For problems concerning potential floods, Leonardo points out how to build the bottom of the channel and specifies the best periods of the year for carrying out such works.
