BUON APPETITO. FOOD FROM EVERY ANGLE | 16th October 2011 - 24th June 2012


In the occasion of the celebration of the 2011 World Food Day on 16 October, the Museum presents "Buon Appetito. L’Alimentazione in tutti i sensi” (“Enjoy your meal. Food from every angle”), an interactive exhibition for children and families, organised with the support of Nestlé, Buitoni, Nestlé Cereals,Nestlé Motta, Nesquik, Perugina, San Pellegrino and Purina andsponsorship, Electrolux and Coop.


The exhibition, designed by Universcience (Cite des Sciences Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie) Paris, in collaboration with the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, Heureka the Finnish Science Centre (Finland) and Technopolis (Belgium), addresses the main aspects of nutrition, food production and consumption, lifestyles and the importance of conviviality.


The exhibition, for its importance and educational value, has received the support of the Ministrer of Youth, the National Youth Agency, the Culture Department of the Region of Lombardy and of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan.


Eating is an everyday action that blends social, economic, ethical, health, cultural and scientific dimensions. The exhibition invites you to discover the different of the theme through exhibits, multimedia quizzes, movies, specific focuses and studies. This approach encourages active engagement of the public in the exploration of five macro-themes: balanced diet, why eat, analysis of food, cultural perceptions, and the citizen as consumer.



After the great success of the exhibition in Paris and Helsinki, with nearly 300,000 visitors in total, "Buon Appetito" will be part of the education and cultural programme of the Museum. The exhibition is also included in the Museum’s long-term programme for EXPO 2015 as it is in line with the topic of the universal exposition: "Feeding the planet, Energy for Life".


Nestlè will be present in the location of the exhibition aiming to encourage awareness and conscious choices by citizens. A space that reminds a kitchen invites visitors to discover in an enjoyable and interactive way nutritional properties, the best use and the social function of the main Nestlè products, creating links with the topics of the exhibition and in line with the company stragegy around the world.

In fact, studies by the Observatory Adi - Nestle lifestyles reveal that almost half of the Italian population is now overweight or obese while among the three main reasons is the lack of adequate education on nutrition. The development of synergy between stakeholders is fundamental in order to promote good habits, especially in young people and strengthen the importance of a joint educational mission based on the collaboration between cultural institutions and the business world.


THE TOPICS OF THE EXHIBITION

Feel-good food
What kind of factors contribute to the development of a balanced eating style? Nutrition, energy consumption, lifestyle and conviviality: Is it possible to eat well and with taste without being deprived of anything?


Why do you eat?
How does the body work? How does digestion work? Which reasons lead to eating? Behavior and eating habits: Which kind of dangers excess and overdo cause?


Food survey
Food thematic groups, nutritional principles and their composition, production process from the beginning to the end. Which factors are involved in the perception of food and why you choose a certain product?


No accounting for taste
How does the perception of cooking and food change in different countries around the world? Does everybody have their own taste and describe consumption in a different way? What is the social impact emerging from performing arts and films on food?


Responsible eating
How can we become conscious consumers? Can you learn to identify external influences? What are the ecological consequences of food consumption? How much is wasted and how many things doe we know about the food crisis?


THE LAYOUT OF THE EXHIBITION

30 THEMATIC ISLANDS
They consist of interactive exhibits which help inquire and explore the macro-themes.


5 SPECIFIC FOCUSES
The focus appears at the beginning of each macro-theme, contextualised in kitchen-like environment. The foci are dedicated to the adult visitors and examine specific issues related to macrotheme through three different tools: multimedia quizzes, case studies, frequently asked questions and information brochures.


TARGET: children from 9 years, adolescents and adults.


AREA: 650 sqm.


LANGUAGES: Italian, English, French


ACCESSIBILITY: There are seats for disabled people and recourses for blind visitors.


FOR SCHOOLS

The visit of the exhibition visit for school groups is carried out with the presence of a facilitator who invites pupils to explore exhibits and use all tools, encourages discussion within the group.

The exhibition is open during the same opening hours of the Museum.

Price
The cost of admission to the exhibition is 3 euros. You can not buy a ticket to visit the exhibition "Buon Appetito" separately from that of the Museum.
