TOTI SUBMARINE VR EXPERIENCE

TOTI SUBMARINE VR EXPERIENCE

A unique virtual reality experience on board the Enrico Toti submarine

You can immerse yourself in a three-dimensional stereoscopic world thanks to the 360° spherical photographic images captured on board, the sound effects granted exclusively to the Museum by the Italian Navy Submarine School, a number of interactive animated objects and a dynamic voice track.

For the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Toti, the Museum presents TOTI SUBMARINE VR EXPERIENCE, a free app for your smartphone.

Download the app, insert the smartphone into the cardboard viewer and choose among two types of exploration: Escape immersion! - Adventure on board or Guided Tour - Explore the submarine. You will find yourself on board the first Italian submarine built after WWII.

Escape immersion! - Adventure on board

During the Escape immersion! experience you will be on board as a machinist (the guy who looks after the engines on the submarine), embarked on board the Toti on June 20, 1990 for a mission in the Mediterranean Sea. You will wake up in your camp bed in the launch room and you will be asked to perform a series of operations to complete a fast immersion and escape from enemy aircrafts. Follow your officer’s directions and use the clues disseminated on the Toti: if all goes as planned you will be able to perform an immersion and cover your tracks.

Guided Tour - Explore the submarine

The Guided Tour experience allows you to explore the whole submarine, from the launch room to the engine room. You will be guided by a voice that will give you information about the rooms and the technological equipment, as well as recounting some anecdotes and stories about life of board. Inside the ship, curious and meticulous players will discover some Easter eggs containing original and entertaining stories that no Museum guide will ever tell you!

THE CUSTOMISED VR CARDBOARD VIEWER TOTI SUBMARINE VR EXPERIENCE

For a fully immersive experience use a viewer that guarantees excellent vision, with a practical and solid design. To produce its custom-made cardboard viewer, the National Museum of Science and Technology involved a top Lombard company with an expertise in the design and production of communication products, active since the early 1970s.

The product has been designed and tested according to the specific needs of the Museum: pre-assembled high quality lenses that meet the current health and safety standards; an ergonomic mask with indentations that guarantee a good grip for children and adults; a customizable secure space to accommodate both smartphones of all sizes.

The branded viewer is produced at first in a Limited Edition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Toti submarine at the Museum. On sale at the Museum concept store MUST Shop from 20th december 2015.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE VIEWER

Fold the flap into the main body of the viewer to separate the two lens-spaces.

Push inwards the four pre-cut sections along the edges.

Insert the lens piece making sure that the black margin is facing towards you.

Insert the smartphone, place the adhesive rubber wedges on the inner sides of the box to secure the phone if necessary, and close the back flap.
