M – Main Building

Originally built to house the monks of the Olivetan order, the Museum’s main building was built in the early 16th century as a monastery. The building became the site for the Museum in 1947. It now houses a Gallery dedicated to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, as well as most of the collections and the i.labs.

F – Rail Building

The collection is housed in a metallic pavilion from Milan's fair, which was originally dedicated to hosting the Air Collection. In 1967 it became the Railway Transport Pavilion, and the copy of a 19th century façade was also added to it. The display presents a hundred years of the railway transport evolution, starting from the second half of the 19th century. It is possible to admire several steam and electric locomotives, alongside with a horse tram and the very famous Gamba de Legn.

E – Outdoor spaces

Outside, next to the Rail Transport Pavilion, visitors encounter the Enrico Toti submarine: launched in 1967, this is the first submarine the Italian shipbuilding industry was able to build after WWII. In the surroundings there are also some 1950s’ fighter planes on display.

A – Air and Water Building

Opened in 1973, this building houses two objects of remarkable size: the brigantine Ebe and the bridge of the transatlantic liner "Conte Biancamano". Moreover, means of attack, models of sailing vessels, a collection of figureheads, objects and books concerning navigation are also on display. The Air Transport section is on the upper level, illustrating the history of air transport from the pioneering era right through to jet planes. It is possible to admire eleven aircraft models, on-board instruments and other devices, such as propellers, landing gears and airplane engines.

O – Olona Building

This pavilion is located at the end of the visit path and it hosts the MUST SHOP, the Museum’s bookshop where you can purchase books, kits, scientific games, merchandising and much more. The exit leads visitors to via Olona, from which you can easily reach several means of transport.
